Producing sustainable carbon adsorbents, known as biochars, from difficult to recycle, organic waste.

A University of Edinburgh spinout

Carbogenics is a University of Edinburgh spinout developing technologies to accelerate the circular economy, with expertise in biocatalytic carbon-composites and anaerobic digestion.

Its first product is CreChar, the Company's trademarked name for a biochar/charcoal-based additive that is manufactured primarily from paper waste. CreChar turns difficult-to-recycle farm and paper waste which would otherwise go to landfills or be sent for incineration into a carbon-rich, porous material that will help stabilise the performance of anaerobic digestion plants and enhance green energy production.

The Company has a second biochar product, known as FilaChar, in development for waste-water treatment. It has completed pilot testing for FilaChar and is completing industrial trials.

Carbogenics have recently secured funding for their first CreChar production and R&D facility.
