A University of Edinburgh student startup
Danu Robotics is a University of Edinburgh student startup, founded by Xiaoyan (Amy) Ma during her MSc at the School of Informatics. The company is developing the first robotic waste sorting system to fully automate the manual waste sorting process.
The technology will automate the sorting of waste using an integrated computer vision and modular robotic picking system. Danu’s modular hardware and sophisticated operating system will result in reduced costs, increased revenue (from resale of high purity recyclables) and increased environmental benefit.
An integrated first-generation system is due to be deployed in a three-month live trial at a waste processing centre managed by Glasgow City Council, and the Company is in discussion with a number of other potential trial partners.
