A multi-rotor wind turbine (MRWT) for increased energy capture

A University of Edinburgh student startup

Myriad Wind Energy Systems is a student start-up founded by three renewable energy researchers, Adam Harris (UoE), Peter Taylor (Strathclyde) and Paul Pirrie (Strathclyde). The Company is designing the next generation of high-performance wind turbines.

Myriad’s multi-rotor wind turbine (MRWT) is an array of many smaller rotors on a single support structure rather than one large rotor like conventional wind turbines. This modular design has several advantages compared to existing, conventional wind turbines including:

•Reduced capital cost and operations and maintenance costs;

•Increased energy capture potential;

•Higher wind turbine control; and

•Use of recyclable materials (such as thermoplastics) to support a circular economy.

The Company is currently using pre-Seed funding to optimise its initial concept and design.
