A University of Edinburgh student startup
Terrapin is a student startup, co-founded by Dr. Miguel Jaques whilst completing his PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Edinburgh.
Terrapin provides referencing and pricing data for bonds, crucial data for investors, traders and financial institutions. Terrapin has developed a bond referencing and pricing database that solves challenges accessing and consolidating bond data at scale. The company uses proprietary algorithms to deliver accurate and consistent information, significantly enhancing data quality and flexibility to clients utilizing bond data.
Terrapin closed a £2M seed round in 2024, which enabled the team to continue growing and expand data coverage to additional bond markets, driving customer acquisition and growth. Terrapin has continued to hit key milestones, launching a new data platform and demonstrating strong market traction. The company recently launched its new municipal credit intelligence platform, which significantly reduces the time associated with market surveillance through data aggregation and overcomes the lack of standardised reporting in the sector. The company also secured one notable commercial contract and two headline pilots in 2025.
